Psalm 诗篇 – Devotional Reading Plan 2020

43:5 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, because I will again praise him, my salvation and my God.

“There is something very real and authentic about the Psalms. Life is not easy. We may face battles, opposition and even depression. The right response is to turn to God. Pray for God’s guidance, and his presence, his ‘joy and delight’.”

44:17 All this has befallen us, though we have not forgotten you, and we have not been false to your covenant.
44:18 Our heart has not turned back, and our steps have not turned aside from your way.

46:8 Come, see the works of Yahweh, who has placed desolations on the earth.
46:9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and cuts off the spear. The wagons of war he burns with fire.
46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.”

This scripture seems to reveal how we are to live during this time of the coronavirus epidemic. God wants us to rest and to know better that He is God!

51:6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden parts you make me to know wisdom.

This is a great psalm if you’re feeling bad or have failed or made some terrible mistake. There is no self-justification in this psalm. We need to take responsibility for the mess in our lives, with no excuses, and let God clean it away. It is also a great comfort to know that David, who had sinned so badly, was forgiven and was described as ‘a man after God’s own heart’ (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22).

51:10 Create a clean heart for me, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

In fact, all human sin, great or small, “falls short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23), so “the wages of sin” (Rom. 6:23) is death: “And just as it is destined for people to die once, and after this, judgment,” (Heb. 9:27). In God’s plan of salvation, there is no sacrifice, service, or merit that can bribe God and offset sin. What God wants is not an offering, nor a labor, but a renewal of life and a right relationship with God in man. Therefore, “the sacrifice that God wants is a spirit of sorrow” (v. 17), and no matter how great or small the sin may be, as long as there is a “sorrowful and contrite heart” (v. 17) in man that is willing to turn back to God, God “will not despise it” (v. 17).

56:8 You have kept count of my wonderings. Put my tears in your bottle; are they not in your book?

56:11 God I trust; I do not fear. What can mere humankind do to me?

56:13 because you have delivered my soul from death. Have you not kept my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
