2:11 This beginning of signs Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

The Wedding Feast at Cana (1563), by the Italian artist Paolo Veronese (1528–1588), is a representational painting that depicts the biblical story of the Marriage at Cana, at which Jesus converts water to wine (John 2:1–11). 此幅油画在1563年完成,长9.94米,宽4.77米,是这一主题的巨幅画作之一, 亦是卢浮宫收藏的最大油画。为表现婚宴规模的盛大,委罗奈斯将宴会设计在露天,以便毫不顾忌的利用空间。他将人群分为三个层次,充分表现出场面的深远。第一层次是以耶稣为中心坐在席位上的贵客和桌前奏乐的乐师及侍从。为体现主题,画家将耶稣安排在正中,使徒们目光向耶稣集中,这一部分尚有些宗教气息,除此之外,便都是痛饮狂欢的人群了。英国女皇等欧洲君主们神态各异地坐在桌旁,他们穿着色彩艳丽的服装,增添了婚宴的豪华和热闹。画家丁托莱托手持红棍和一位欧洲君主聊着,他的前面是穿着黄色衣服、双手抱着酒坛倒酒的侍从,这些动作的组合加强了画面的动感。画家把自己画成一位乐师,在乐队中神情专注地演奏乐器。第二层次是栏杆后的人群,这一人群的动作更为激烈,有的甚至爬上石柱。第三层次是站在建筑物阳台上的人群。整个画面共画有一百三十多人。在银灰色基调的衬托下,一百多个人物的五彩缤纷的服饰更为跳跃,令你眼花缭乱,充分显示了宴会的盛大和热闹。

It’s interesting when you think about it, the first miracle Jesus did wasn’t calming the storm, or healing the sick, or five loaves and two fishes, but being a help to people as they prepared to start a family and throw a wedding banquet!

2:23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name because they saw his signs which he was doing.
2:23 当耶稣在耶路撒冷过逾越节的时候,有许多人看见他所行的神迹,就信了他的名。
2:24 But Jesus himself did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people,
2:24 耶稣却不将自己交托他们,因为他知道万人;
2:25 and because he did not need anyone to testify about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
2:25 也用不着谁见证人怎样,因他知道人心里所存的。

“耶稣基督在耶路撒冷行了很多神迹,但约翰在此却一笔带过,把着墨的重点却放在了耶稣的回应上。有很多人看到神迹,就信了耶稣的名,但耶稣却不把自己交给他们。对人而言,事业的关键时刻,众人拥护的时刻,不正是扬名立万,振臂一呼的时刻吗? 拍照、签名、召粉丝花样儿翻新。但神不需要别人见证他的工作,他的标准和人的标准也不同,“天离地是何等的高”(参 诗篇 102:11)。

归根结底,基督信仰的价值不依靠人对他的肯定而实现,而是他自己本身所有的价值。依靠人的承认而存在的价值不是永恒的价值,而是商场上的价值。耶稣基督被钉十字架的时候,门徒除了约翰都离他而去,却说出“成了”。以世人看,成在哪里了?但从永恒的价值来看,那一刻就是历史的中心点。

我们看到耶稣不把自己交给那些因为神迹而信他的人,他似乎不稀罕有多少人表面上信他,他也不求人的荣耀,他所看见的是人的动机,而不是人虔敬的外表。这对我们今天欢迎教会的新朋友是有一些启迪的,很多教会喜欢鼓掌欢迎新朋友,烘托出一种很友善的氛围,但我们也要清楚不是主需要罪人,而是罪人需要主。

主看人到他面前来是看我们的动机,你来求什么?求好处?求神迹?求兴趣?圣经让我们看到耶稣不需要你这种动机的追随和承认,甚至是表面上服侍主的人,神却说不认识他们(参:太 7:21-23)” —— 唐崇荣牧师

3:27 John answered and said, “A man can receive not one thing unless it is granted to him from heaven!

3:28 You yourselves testify about me that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I am sent before that one.’

3:29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine is complete.
3:29 娶新妇的就是新郎,新郎的朋友站着听见新郎的声音就甚喜乐,故此我这喜乐满足了。
3:30 It is necessary for that one to increase, but for me to decrease.”
3:30 他必兴旺,我必衰微。

John likens his own position to ‘the friend who attends the bridegroom’ (whom we might call the ‘best man’). Far from being threatened by the arrival of the groom, it is the very thing he has been waiting for, and he is delighted by it. Likewise, John explains that he has been waiting for Jesus, and is ‘full of joy’ at Jesus’ ministry. Jesus was John the Baptist’s successor. John says of Jesus: ‘He must become greater; I must become less’ (v.30).

At times, all of us may be driven to become greater, more important, more honoured, more highly promoted or better qualified. These are not all bad aims in themselves, but our daily choices will be swayed by these ambitions. You have to choose how you live your life. Are you focused on your promotion or on exalting Jesus? Is your ambition more for yourself or for Jesus?

Sometimes, we even see different Christian ministries competing with each other. This should never happen.

Echo these words in your heart: ‘He must become greater; I must become less’ (v.30). Ultimately, the focus is not on yourself – it is always on Jesus. Our ambition must always be to point people to Jesus.

Doing God’s will is not an onerous burden at all, but is natural and enjoyable like eating food, and ultimately leads to complete spiritual sufficiency!

4:39 Now from that town many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me everything that I have done.”
4:39 那城里有好些撒马利亚人信了耶稣,因为那妇人作见证说:“他将我素来所行的一切事都给我说出来了。”

撒马利亚妇人不太光彩的见证,却能使犹太人几百年的宿仇「好些撒马利亚人信了耶稣」。真正的见证是见证主在自己身上的工作,而非宣扬我们自己的美德、功劳。

7:37 Now on the last day of the feast—the great day—Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me, and let him drink,

7:38 the one who believes in me. Just as the scripture said, ‘Out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.’ ”

1 Now before the feast of Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, and having loved his own in the world, loved them to the end.
