5:12 And the manna ceased the day after, when they started eating the produce of the land, and there was no longer manna for the Israelites. They ate from the crop of the land of Canaan in that year.
God provided as much as they needed and no more. This kept them from material security and self-sufficiency and, perhaps, from not trusting in God. Your security and trust must be in God alone.
7:20 And Achan answered Joshua and said, “It is true. I have sinned against Yahweh the God of Israel, and this is what I did: 7:20 亚干回答约书亚说:“我实在得罪了耶和华以色列的神。 7:21 I saw among the spoil a beautiful robe from Shinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and one bar of gold that weighed fifty shekels; I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, and the silver is under it.” 7:21 我在所夺的财物中,看见一件美好的示拿衣服、二百舍客勒银子、一条金子重五十舍客勒,我就贪爱这些对象,便拿去了。
We need to be aware of the danger of compartmentalising our lives. Like Achan’s tent, everything can look respectable on the surface, but underneath, hidden away, there lurks sin. Other people cannot see the compartments of our lives where sin resides, but God can.
20:9 These were the cities designated for all the Israelites, and for the foreigners dwelling among them, for anyone that kills a person unintentionally to flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until there is a trial before the congregation.
