Poipu Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

The reason we chose Poipu Beach as one of our Kauai destinations was to try our luck with monk seals or sea turtles. Unfortunately, we found nothing the day we went. But it was a nice quiet evening enjoying the last rays of sunshine on the shore, with some bands playing around.

Honestly, the view of Poipu Beach is nothing special compared to the other beaches on Kauai. However, what makes this place special is the popularity, the music, and one more thing which you won’t believe – there are lots and lots of pheasant chickens nearby. These chickens are everywhere, and they don’t just walk on the ground either. If you look up at the trees, you will be amazed by the number of these chickens and amused by their constant squawking. You don’t want to think they only stay in the short trees. I also saw many chickens in trees about 10 meters high, but I don’t know how they got up the tree.

As for why there are so many chickens on Kauai, maybe it’s because of a huge hurricane that devastated Hawaii a few years back. That hurricane destroyed the chicken farm on Kauai and all the chickens escaped while it was happening. Of course, the Chinese way of thinking is why these chickens aren’t being caught and eaten. Why are they wandering around Kauai so freely and happily? That’s because it’s expensive to find someone to catch and slaughter the chickens. Another reason is that the locals don’t like the meat of these pheasants because they are too lean and too old. The most important reason is that there aren’t too many Chinese on Kauai, otherwise Kauai would have run out of chickens by now!

All in all, if you specifically want to see seals and turtles, you might want to try your luck at a few other beaches. If you are lovers or couples, then you won’t regret going to Poipu Beach to take a break because it’s really a romantic and relaxing place.

把波普海滩作为我们可爱岛之旅目的地之一的原因，是想碰碰运气看看能不能遇到僧海豹或是海龟。可惜我们去的那天一无所获。然而静静地在岸边享受这当天的最后一缕阳光，伴着周围一些乐队的演奏，也不失为一个惬意的傍晚。

说实话，波普海滩的景色和可爱岛的其他海滩比起来，真没什么特别的。然而这里的特色就是有人气，有音乐，还有一点你一定想不到，波普海滩还有很多很多的野鸡。这些鸡到处都是，它们也不只在地上走。如果你抬头看看树，你就被这些鸡的数量震惊，它们的叫声此起彼伏。你可不要以为它们只能待在矮的树上。我在大约十米高的树上也看到很多鸡，但我不知道它们怎么上树的。

至于可爱岛为什么有这么多鸡，也许是因为前几年让夏威夷受到重创的一次特大飓风。那次飓风破坏了可爱岛上的养鸡场，鸡全部都趁机逃出来了。当然，中国人的思路就是为什么这些鸡不被人抓去吃了。为何它们这么自由快活地在可爱岛到处晃悠。那是因为找人抓鸡和宰鸡的成本都很高。还有一个原因就是当地人嫌弃这些野鸡的肉太瘦太老，不好吃。最重要的原因是可爱岛上没有太多中国人，否则可爱岛的鸡早就被他们吃完了！

总而言之，如果你特别想要看到海豹和海龟，也许你可以去其他几个海滩碰碰运气。如果你们是恋人或夫妻，那么你们不会后悔去波普海滩休息一会儿的，因为那真是一个浪漫放松的地方。
